Franziska Riepl is the Spring 2020 Outstanding Graduate for the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration. An economics major with a 4.0 GPA, Riepl was among five finalists for the award.

Riepl has been on the President’s List, and was a three-time recipient of both the Sun Belt Commissioner’s List and Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is the recipient of the William J. Moss Memorial Endowed Economics Scholarship, Maise and Grant Molett Honors Scholarship, Alumni Association Scholarship, Fleur de Lis Scholarship for International Students, and an Athletic Scholarship.

She has been a member of the UL Lafayette Soccer team and Honors Program. She participated in the Eugene Scassa Mock Organization of American States (ESMOAS), a diplomacy simulation with the team of the UL Lafayette Honors Program, where her work was recognized for Outstanding Written Resolution and Distinguished Crisis Address. She is the president of the Political Science Club, has held positions of vice president and treasurer in the International Student Council, and is a member and former secretary of the Circle of Sophia Philosophy Club.

Her community service activities include Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, Mondays in March Soccer Clinics for children ages 4 to 12, Adopt-a-Family Athletics Christmas Fundraiser, Women's and Children's Hospital, Love Acadiana/Love Our Schools, Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation, and Festival International.

Franziska was invited to present her honors baccalaureate undergraduate thesis, “The Response of Labor Unions to Universal Basic Income”, at the University of Louisiana System Academic Summit at Northwestern State University (April 2020), the Politics, Philosophy and Economics Society Annual Meeting in New Orleans (March 2020), the Louisiana Undergraduate Research Conference at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (Fall 2019), the North American Basic Income Guarantee Congress in New York City (June 2019), and the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Conference in New Orleans (April 2019). She also participated in mathematics undergraduate research on “Majorization in Rn.”

After graduation, Riepl plans to obtain a Ph.D. in economics with a focus on labor economics and public policy. She hopes to work in economic research and public policy at a university, government agency, political organization, or non-governmental organization.

She is the daughter of Frank Riepl and Gabriele Engelhardt of Bad Krozingen, Germany.
