The Moody College of Business Marketing Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is continuing their trend of producing outstanding results for student sales competitions locally and nationally. Members of the Ragin' Sales Team sponsored by Service Chevrolet Cadillac recently received top awards at the International Collegiate Sales Competition (ICSC) at Florida State University in Orlando and the Russ Berrie Institute National Sales Competition (NSC) at William Paterson University in New Jersey.

The Orlando team, led by Dr. Gwen Fontenot, consisted of four competitors, two in the sales management case competition and two in the sales role-play competition. The ICSC involved 21 universities competing in the sales management case competition and 42 universities competing in the role-play. Shelbi King, an accounting/marketing junior from Opelousas, LA, and Brielle Smith, a marketing senior from New Orleans, LA, competed individually in the role-play challenge and tied for second place overall with their combined team score. Marketing seniors John Hyde from Alexandria, LA, and Jordan Wallace from Weatherford, Texas participated in the case competition.

King describes why participating is so valuable for her future career. “Competing in this competition strengthened my confidence in myself and also my abilities to adapt to different situations on a personal level. Professionally, I was offered many great internship opportunities that ultimately offer the possibility of a full-time job upon graduation.”

The New Jersey team, led by Dr. Duleep Delpechitre, consisted of two sales role-play competitors and two alternates who served as assistant coaches. The team placed 4th overall out of 40 universities with 80 students. Stefani Domingue, a marketing senior from Lafayette, emerged as the 2nd runner-up of the role-play competition. Brooke Smith, a marketing senior from Pineville, LA, was 3rd runner-up in the referral based role-play competition.  The team was assisted by student coaches Brielle Smith and Cathryn Richard, a marketing senior from Opelousas, LA.

The ICSC and NSC closely followed the UL Lafayette Sales Competition sponsored by State Farm Insurance, Capital One, and Stuller and Reliant Payroll, where 13 students competed in the state-of-the-art Northwestern Mutual Sales and Research Lab. Brielle Smith placed first, followed by Brooke Smith, Cathryn Richard, and Stephani Domingue.
