Meet Mary Alexander, an MBA student. We're shining a spotlight on Mary because of her outstanding work as the Internship Coordinator for the College of Business.

Where are you from?  Lafayette!

What is your major?   Masters in Business Administration

When will you graduate? May 11th, 2018

Why do you love being an MBA student?
I love the MBA Program because it has given me the opportunity to learn and work beside some of the most creative and determined people I’ve ever met. Seeing them succeed despite difficulties renews my faith in the concept of human resilience. My peers amaze me daily!

What is your organizational involvement and work experience?
I am the Internship Coordinator for the College of Business.

How long have you been involved in your organization?
I have been the Internship Coordinator since the summer of 2017.

Are you involved in any other organizations, clubs, or jobs at the university?
I also serve as a Graduate School Senator for the Student Government Association, and I am a member of the MBA Association.

What is your favorite part of your organization?
My favorite part of being Internship Coordinator is getting to meet interesting and inspiring people.  From students and administrators to employers, the networking required means never a dull day in the office.

How is your experience as a student and an organization leader at the College of Business preparing you for post-graduate success?
The position of Internship Coordinator has challenged me in many ways. I find that, after nearly a year in the position, I speak more confidently, operate more efficiently, and have developed communication skills crucial to the business world. This position combined with my engaging MBA program has trained me to be an effectual leader and professional.

What are your plans for the future?
I am currently suffering through the application process for law school! I am strongly drawn towards defending the vulnerable, and I hope to become a warrior for the less fortunate in our society. I am also interested in specializing in an area of consulting that incorporates both business and law. At the end of the day, I think I speak for graduating seniors everywhere when I say that this question is always a little stressful and so I’ll simply end with, who knows! Anything could happen.

Do you have any words of advice for current or future students?
1) Be nice to your professors! These instructors are here to work for you and are a wealth of knowledge, not to mention pretty interesting.
2) Be proactive!  Assume nothing will get done unless you do it yourself. Put forth the effort you want to see from others around you (I’m talkin’ to you group projects).

What are your other interests and hobbies?
I love to read (Barnes and Noble on a Saturday is my heaven) and hangout with my mini-schnauzer, Kingsley (yes, Kingsley Shacklebolt. Harry Potter is my life). Watching The Office consumes entirely too much of my time, and I love traveling! I’m always a little stressed when I don’t have a planned trip to look forward to.

Is there something that you had wished we would have asked, and if so how would you answer?
I don’t think so!
